Early SmartphonesSmartphones came to be in 1993 invented by IBM Simon. When it was first invented the only purpose for this devise was to send and receive voice communications through radio waves and satellite transmissions. They didn't have touch screens or great cameras like we do today. The smartphones cost over $4000 and weighed over 2 pounds, so you had to be pretty wealthy in order to buy one of these phones.

How they have changed over the years
In 2007 a company named Apple under a guy named Steve Jobs and some of his other comrades invented the new smartphone the "iPhone" and was released to the public on June 29, 2007. The iPhone was a lot smaller and more useful than the old smartphone. It had the touch screen and was able to call and text, but this was only the beginning of something big. Then each year after the iPhone was released Apple released a new iPhone and was getting bigger and more popular. Sooner or later they installed new features with the iPhone such as fingerprint scanning to improve security. Also today the price range for a smartphone are about between $50 and $300 and weigh about 4.5 ounces which is a lot lighter and cheaper than the first smartphone.
Future of the smartphone
The future of smartphones is very bright with new features and apps that will make the smartphone even smarter and more useful such as flexible screens, built-in projector, 3D screens and holograms, and they could eventually be as thin as paper, have really good camera quality, and have pretty big screens which seems to be occuring every time a new phone comes out. Also the accessories with the smartphones could get a huge upgrade too such as solar powered battery packs, and provide the smartphone even more protection.
